Texas Centennial Exposition
This website has some great period photographs of the Fair, while a Mr "Atomic Glee" posted a nice collection of modern-day pictures of the same buildings in this thread.Wikipedia wrote:The Texas Centennial Exposition was a World's Fair held at Fair Park in Dallas, Texas (USA) to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Texas's independence from Mexico in 1836. More than 50 buildings were constructed for the Exposition, which ran from June 6, 1936 to November 29, 1936, attracted over 10 million visitors, and cost around $25 million.

I feel especially ashamed since I have been to the Dallas Fair Park (specifically to watch the University of Texas VS Oklahoma Football games at the Cotton Bowl Stadium) twice without researching any of the history.
