War Of The Worlds: Goliath

(have tried a search with "goliath" with no results, so I hope it hasn't been posted before)

I'm eagerly awaiting this movie coming out.

Here's the trailer first ;)

Though the following text referrs to Steampunk, I personally think Dieselpunk better fits the bill...

"Pre-release Information - Synopsis by Joe Pearson; "It's an R rated, retro-history, steam punk epic set in [the year] 1914, fourteen years after the first failed Martian invasion.
Mankind has rebuilt her cities and military adapting a lot of the abandoned Martian technology. They've created an international defense force, A.R.E.S., based on the lower end of Manhattan and under the command of Theaodore Roosevelt.
They've built a formidable force centered around giant, steam powered battle tripods.

Think of "Band of Brothers" meets "Star Wars", meets World WO. It will be cool-steam powered battle tripods, doomed Cossack cavalry charges, victorian decco, steam punk Manhattan, 1500 foot long armored battle zeppelins, Teddy Roosevelt, souped up Tri-planes, blood on steaming metal, sex in the cockpit. The usual."

It will have a budget of around $3 million, and be produced by Tripod Entertainment Sdn Bhd (joint venture between Elemental Ventures Sdn Bhd and Epoch Ink Corp). This story is not directly based on Heavy Metal, but it is a sequel to the classic War Of The Worlds novel by H.G. Wells. It is uncertain how connected this movie is to Heavy Metal. It might not be an Official Heavy Metal movie, but it still has Heavy Metal connections. It was originally intended on being part of a series of Heavy Metal Videos. And is being co-produced by Kevin Eastman (owner of Heavy Metal)."

  • After watching that trailer, the animation style did remind me of Heavy Metal 2000 now that I think about it. Could be interesting.
  • I remember why this run a bell now: did a blog post on the project some time ago. It's good to see they're still moving forward!
  • I remember it from last year. We shall see - as I commented before, most 'sequels' to WOTW are pretty awful, including 'Next Wave' and 'Total War'(I think it's called).
  • Out of curiousity, does anyone have any idea when this is supposed to be coming out? I originally thought it would be coming out in February, but I've also heard May as a possible release date.

For some reason, I found the negative comments comparing this movie to Ian Edgington's Scarlet Traces on the Brass Goggles blog somewhat amusing. After all, once you look close enough, it's pretty clear that it's more a case of convergent evolution than outright plagarism.
